All in one single housing

Developed for the Fujinon XK6x20 20-120 mm zoom lens the CDM-XK-Z enables ways of creativity that may be impossible just by zooming manually. To simplify the operator’s workflow the zoom servo drive is directly mounted onto the lens by two captive screws.

The weight of the CDM-XK-Z including digital motor, gear, PCB with CPU, screws and cabling is 0.44 lbs. (197 gram). With the zoom servo drive Chrosziel addresses camera operators who are working in the broadcast and documentary sector looking for a reasonably priced zoom servo drive.

All camera control signals forwarded

Control commands (e.g. menu / user buttons / focus magnification / camera run & stop) are immediately looped through to the camera via the LANC protocol.

By using a Sony PXW-FS5 or a Sony PXW-FS7 camera with a SWIT battery a D-Tap to a (straight or angled) Lemo compatible 5-Pin power cable is used (Chrosziel order numbers: MN-AB-A with angled Lemo compatible socket / MN-AB with straight Lemo compatible socket). The two Jack-Jack cables are forwarding the control commands from the hand grip.

If e.g. a Panasonic Varicam, Sony PMW-F5 or Sony PMW-F55 are used a combined cable with power and start / stop is required, like a Hirose 4-Pin to a (straight or angled) Lemo compatible 5-Pin cable (Chrosziel order numbers: F55-A2-PCAM-A with angled Lemo socket / F55-A2-PCAM with straight Lemo compatible socket). Also, the two Jack-Jack cables are forwarding the control commands from the hand grip.

Also, Chrosziel offers a variety of power cables with straight and angled plugs for all types of camera power out sockets and batteries including camera run / stop functionality.

Chrosziel CDM-XK-Z Zoom Servo Motor: zoom modes

For freedom of creativity the operator may choose from four different zoom modes: EB / Documentary Mode, Live / Hardcut Mode, Silent, and Direct Mode.

  • EB / Documentary Mode
Designed for long and smooth zoom drives with the CDM-LWZ3-Z it offers slow creeping zoom transitions while keeping the motive perfectly framed.
  • Silent Mode
To reduce the sound of the zoom servo drive the maximum speed of its motor is limited to 40 percent making the setup almost inaudible.
  • Live / Hardcut Mode
To catch the best moments, the Live / Hardcut Mode is useful. It uses 80 percent of the maximum speed capacity of the motor offering fast zoom drives but with Soft Ramping.
  • Direct Mode
The Direct Mode finally uses the full speed capacity of the Zoom Servo Drive. The LANC commands are implemented instantaneously without ramping and smooth transitions. Useful for B camera operators catching snaps shots from the concert.

How to change zoom modes

You can choose the different modes by pressing the zoom rocker for round about 25 seconds, then the green LED flashes very fast while changing the zoom mode and after that it blinks 1, 2, 3 or 4 times* – depends on the zoom mode you chose (* 1 = EB / Documentary / 2 = Silent / 3 = Live / Hard Cut / 4 = Direct). To cycle through these all you need to do is hold the zoom rocker down one way for a couple of seconds to switch to the next mode, and the other way, hold to reverse.
